WORCESTER City Amateur Boxing Club has a new champion in the shape of Ryan Jones.

Jones (pictured below) was victorious in his Midlands Final of the National Elite Boxing Championships after forcing his opponent to retire ahead of the third round.

Jones dominated the first round with power and speed, sinking hurtful shots to the head and the body of his opponent, which caused Smith to drop and the referee to give a count, which the Wednesbury boxer managed to survive.

In the second round, Jones applied more pressure and forced the Wednesbury coaches to retire their boxer before going into the third round, with only one result likely.

That, therefore, declared the Worcester boxer the winner and the Midland Champion. Jones now boxes this weekend in the pre quarter-finals of the national stage.

Elsewhere at the club, Worcester's National Junior Champion Jayden Bryce lost on a split decision in the Semi finals of this season's National Junior Championships.
