REDDITCH United's chairman says he is “surprised” Worcester City have not approached him over a possible ground-share.

Bromsgrove Sporting’s Victoria Ground is understood to be lined up as the new temporary home for the exiled club, who are leaving Aggborough at the end of the season.

But Redditch chief Chris Swan insisted Worcester’s bosses should not dismiss the Valley Stadium as he said a deal could work out £38,000 less than they are paying current landlords Kidderminster Harriers.

City have until March 31 to get a venue in place for next season and Swan said he would happy to hold talks with the National League North club before the deadline.

“I would be surprised if they have made a decision and hadn’t contacted us,” Swan said.

“They are our neighbours and we always like to help them, so if they want to take advantage of our fantastic facilities then that will be fine. If they don’t, then that’s fine as well. But I do believe they have chosen Bromsgrove.”

The Southern League Premier Division leaders are set to install a 3G pitch as part of a major revamp at the Valley, which meets National North standards.

Worcester must pay £45,000 a year to play at Aggborough but Swan believes if City chose Redditch it could cost them less than £7,000-a-season depending on the number of home games.

“Our charge-out rate is £130 an hour, so it is about how many hours they want,” he said.

“If they wanted it for two hours on a Saturday that would take it up to £260 or £280 a week, so if you then times that by 23 homes games it will obviously work out a lot cheaper than Kidderminster.

“We have a Grade C ground suitable for the north or south division and there is a £900,000 investment about to go into it, which will see a 3G pitch and a total refurbishment of the changing rooms and clubhouse.

“It is also a five-minute walk from the train station and there are good bus services but for whatever reason City haven’t given us a call. If they want to do something, they need to pull their finger out.”
