SIR – I’M highly concerned at the plans for a second storey on the ancient hospital building.

Apart from anything else, I do not believe for one second it has foundations dug. They are a modern invention. And to redevelop that beautiful shop front? It could so easily be restored.

The Carallion Richardson Group made £75m from their buildings on the site, and possibly even more selling this site.

They should be responsible for restoring this valuable building to what it was.

I acknowledge they were forced to save the Vinegar Works against their wishes, but they got so much in return.

Vote needed on bypass

SIR – I AGREE one hundred percent with David Withey’s brilliant letter of July 4 regarding the western bypass. He hit the nail right on the head - “a conspiracy” to the full.

I think Worcester residents now need the right to vote on a western bypass proposal. Everyone knows it makes sense, why not admit it! Of course, the Tory voters may get upset in the western areas; well tough! THEY and WE all know that Worcester is fast becoming gridlocked. I wonder how they (those against) truly feel when held up in city traffic?

I try to stay out of the city as much as possible, and thankfully work 16 miles away. Never would I choose to work in it, as parking is expensive and a nightmare to find. If I do visit the city, which is rare, then it’s very early morning, just after the rush-hour. Thank goodness for online shopping, which I began when held up in a dreadful city traffic queue!

A vote is needed NOW and NOT money wasted on the ridiculous amount of roadworks being implemented at the St Peters area. Try to think logically for a change! It’s really NOT that difficult. Or do we have to wait until Worcester actually does become one solid car park with traffic stuck fast?

Attitudes out of the 1950s

SIR – “WE know best” seems to be James Goad of UKIP’s thesis, in criticising the fact that older voters may have denied the young a future within the EU. He didn’t quite say “leave it to your elders and betters” but he might just as well. He didn’t quite say “don’t bother your fluffy heads over this – we’ll decide for you” but he might just as well.

I wonder how many young people would be happy to have their future determined by their grandparents? How patronising to claim that older voters may have voted in favour of exit “precisely because they had the best interests of the younger generations at heart.”

These attitudes come right out of the 1950s – like so much of UKIP’s policies. They’ll want to put the voting age back up to 21 next – or maybe raise it to 50!

LIBERAL DEMOCRATs Any details?

SIR – WE found this tapestry on the landing in National Trust property Knightshayes Court in Devon.

I don’t think there was any information about it so I don’t know what the link with the house and Worcestershire is?
