A COW was rescued from a river near Worcester by fire crews after the animal got into difficulties in the water.

The cow was in the river at Bath Road, Broomhall, Worcester before the rescue was performed by firefighters, including a boat crew.

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two fire and rescue service crews – one each from Worcester and Bromyard Fire Stations, including the Bromyard Animal Rescue Team - plus the boat crew from Worcester were called to the rescue of a large animal from water at Bath Road, Broomhall, Worcester.

"A cow was rescued from the water, in the river mouth between the Teme and the Severn, using a harness and a telehandler with the assistance of the farmer. There were no casualties and no other emergency services attended. The incident was marked as pending closure at 8.59pm."
