THE band was back together for an acoustic tour of tunes through the decades in Worcester’s Huntingdon Hall.

Talon Acoustic delighted fans in the intimate and historic venue in Crowngate.

The band is well-known for being one of the most lauded tributes to the Eagles as Talon but this offering was a stripped-down set featuring four men, four bar stools and songs spanning the last century.

From the Java Jive — a 1940s number about coffee — to a Lionel Richie/Adele medley the band covered an impressive range — stand-outs included versions of Billy Joel’s The Longest Time, Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here and a stunning rendition of Simon and Garfunkel’s folk-rock ballad The Boxer.

The vocal harmonies were enchanting in the Grade II listed former Methodist chapel and despite this tour being an emotional reunion for the band — seeing the return of member Keith Buck following surgery — there was a lot of humour.

The audience was treated to tales about youngest band member Jonny Miller who was jokingly described as the rest of the band’s carer due to the gap in ages.

According to the band, some years ago a young Miller used to hang around the studio in Redditch where Talon was recording just to be ‘close to music’.

His dedication clearly paid off. While all band members have their shining moments — Buck leading on Dire Strait’s Sultans of Swing going down a storm — Miller completely stole the show with his cover of John Legend’s All of Me.

The band members engage with their fans — many of whom have clearly seen the group many times — easily and on a personal level for those they have grown to know over the years.

The banter and humour between the band led to some laugh-out-loud moments but never takes away from the musical skill and complexity of some of the numbers.

Eagles fans weren’t left wanting — renditions of Tequila Sunrise, Lyin’ Eyes and others — but they will be back with their Eagles show at Worcester’s Swan Theatre on June 21 and 22.

The band, currently on an acoustic run at Kidderminster’s Rose Theatre, is also playing a number of festivals and gigs around the West Midlands throughout the rest of the year.
