STEPHEN Fry has sent a good luck message to a Worcester theatre group that will soon be performing a classic musical beloved by the actor.

Worcester Operatic & Dramatic Society, known as WODS, will be staging their production of Me and My Girl at the Swan Theatre later this month.

Delighted to see the amateur drama group bringing it to the stage once again, Stephen Fry sent them a video message wishing them luck with the run.

The musical comedy, which was first performed in the West End in 1937, follows the story of Bill Snibson, a cockney gentleman who is revealed to be the new Earl of Hareford, which horrifies his newly discovered aristocratic relations.

It features classic songs Lambeth Walk, The Sun Has Got His Hat On and Leaning On A Lamp Post.

Back in the 1980s, Stephen Fry revised the musical's book, along with Mike Ockrent.

In the special video message, Mr Fry said: “Hey there WODS, I’ve just heard the news that you’re doing Me and My Girl.

“I am so delighted, so pleased, so proud that this show is still rolling on and giving pleasure.

“And I’m sure you with your amazing reputation will continue to enhance the pleasure.

“I hope all of you, whatever your role in this production, take some of the pleasure in it that I’ve had over the years. It is all about fun.

“All the very best – have a fabulous run. Wish I could come and see it”.

In a post on Facebook WODS Community, said: "Wow, wow, wow.
