From Chinese New Year celebrations to an adults-only pantomime, there's lots to get up to in Worcester this week.
With The Commandery's biggest event of the year, stand-up comedy and 'Ultimate Coldplay' also up for grabs, it's a jam-packed week ahead for the city.
The Adult Panto Beauty and The Big Beast
On Friday (February 16) Swan Theatre will host a risqué twist on a timeless classic, The Market Theatre Company will present The Adult Panto Beauty and The Big Beast.
This adults-only pantomime, brought to life by a cast of just three actors, takes a traditional fairy tale and fills it with a minimum of set props and costume in a production packed with bawdy sexual innuendo.
Starting at 7:30pm, tickets are still available for £21.
Ultimate Coldplay
An homage to the popular British rock band can be found on Saturday (February 17) when Ultimate Coldplay perform at The Marrs Bar from 6pm to 10pm.
The tribute band earned the title of UK’s number one Coldplay tribute at the National Tribute Awards in 2018, and promises an energetic performance similar to that of the real thing.
The band, which boasts an uncanny likeness to Chris Martin and co, have toured across the UK, Europe and the Middle East with their full live sound.
Living History 2024
The Commandery will host its biggest event of the year, Living History 2024, on Saturday and Sunday (February 17 and 18).
Attendees will be able to explore historical characters, witness living history encampments, and marvel at military displays.
This year, there's a new addition of cavalry displays, alongside the common tradition of Worcester Reenactors conducting historic firing demonstrations.
Helen Manning, events and activities coordinator at The Commandery, said: "It’s fantastic that Living History falls in the half-term holiday this year – we can’t wait to see lots of families at The Commandery enjoying all the history on display."
Those with a season or residents' pass can attend for free, while online admission is available but not essential.
Chinese New Year Celebrations 2024
On Sunday (February 18) the city will come alive with Worcester’s Chinese New Year Celebrations to welcome the Year of the Dragon.
Families can enjoy free activities ranging from traditional tea ceremonies, dragon dances, martial arts demonstrations, and Chinese music performances.
There’s also an opportunity for children and adults to paint Year of the Dragon ceramic shapes at the Paint-Your-Own-Pottery studio.
The festivities begin at 11am, and run all the way through to 4pm.
Josh Pugh: Existin' La Vida Loca
Lastly, if you fancy a laugh, catch Josh Pugh: Existin' La Vida Loca, on Sunday (February 18) at 7.30pm at Huntingdon Hall.
Back from his sell-out debut UK and Ireland tour, Pugh, who has appeared on shows such as Mock the Week, The Last Leg and Match of the Day X, promises a heartwarming stand-up performance about enjoying yourself and doing your best.
