Plans of a proposed new arts venue in Worcester have been released by the council.

Visuals of the revamped Scala building include three multi-use studios - The Stage, The Screen, and The Box - a café doubling as a performance space, and foyer and reception areas.

The plans, drawn up by Worcester City Council and yet to receive planning permission to develop, also feature the building's historic features, including a unique art deco staircase.

The Stage, fitted with retractable seats, will host live performances and other workshops.

The Screen will focus on movie screenings and talks, including festivals, live broadcasts, and other films usually not shown in multiplexes.

The Box is formulated for workshops, courses, classes as well as new digital experiences.

The facilities aim to be fully accessible and help provide support for emerging talent.

Paul Sutton, from C&T, said: "Myself and the other arts leaders and organisations who have helped shape these plans alongside the City Council are excited to be sharing these designs with the community.

Worcester News: The plans are yet to receive planning permission

"Our collective vision is that the Scala will be a welcoming hub in the heart of the city where people can come together to enjoy, imagine, and cultivate a more creative future for Worcester."

Worcester News:

As previously announced, the council, which has collaborated with six community arts organisations, Severn Arts, Dancefest, Mobilise Arts, C&T, The Kiln and Vestan, to prepare the plans, has put together these proposals for the Scala and Corn Exchange buildings located in Angel Street after extensively consulting with Worcester's arts and creative communities' stakeholders.

The renovation plan has been funded by the city’s £17.9m share of the Government’s Future High Streets Fund.

The planning application is available for public viewing and comments at www.worcester.gov.uk/planning under application number 24/00006/FUL.
