A FLOOD alert has been placed on the River Severn in Worcestershire as Storm Gerrit continues to hit the county.
The alert, issued by the Met Office, came into force last night (December 27) and remains in place today (December 28).
The warning says "Flooding is possible - be prepared.
"Flooding of roads and farmland is possible.
"We expect flooding to affect low-lying land and roads adjacent the river from Highley to Tewkesbury.
"Locations affected are Stourport, Holt Fleet, Worcester, Kempsey, Severn Stoke and Upton upon Severn.
"We are closely monitoring the situation and liaising with emergency services.
"Please plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers and avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses."
The level recorded at level at Barbourne on the river this morning, at 7.30am, is 4.03m.
At that point on the river low-lying land flooding is possible at 3.35m.
Property flooding is possible when the river level is at 4.70m - when the higher flood warnings are issued by the Met Office.
