A MAN was treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in a cell at a Worcestershire high-security prison.
Paramedics treated the man after a fire broke out at HM Prison Long Lartin in South Littleton, near Evesham.
Staff put out the fire before fire crews arrived at the prison on Sunday just before midnight.
A spokesperson from West Midlands Ambulance Services said it was called to reports of a fire at HMP Long Lartin at 11.26pm on Sunday (August 6).
"One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene.
"On arrival, we discovered one patient, a man, who was able to be assessed and discharged at the scene."
A spokesperson from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: “A cell fire at a prison had been extinguished by staff prior to the arrival of crews from Pebworth and Evesham Fire Stations.
“One casualty suffering from smoke inhalation was left in the care of the ambulance service and the final crew left the scene at 11.59pm."
