Jet2.com and Jet2Holidays have launched new flights from Birmingham Airport in time for summer.

The airport now offers travellers the chance to fly to Sicily and Sardinia in Italy.

Weekly flights from Birmingham Airport to Sicily will run on Thursdays until October 26 while those wanting to fly to Sardinia can do so weekly on Sundays until October 15.

The start of flights and holidays to the two Italian destinations is part of Jet2.com and Jet2Holidays’ expanded programme for summer 2023 from the West Midlands airport.

This summer, the company now has seven different Italian destinations on sale this summer from the airport, these are: Sicily, Sardinia, Naples, Pisa, Rome, Venice and Verona.

Customers can expect an authentic Italian experience in Sardinia and visit the Costa Smeralda for a seaside experience or they can go south of Olbia for a holiday with an authentic slant, Jet2.com and Jet2Holidays say.

Sicily offers both beach holidays and city breaks with plenty of culture, cuisine, dramatic landscapes, Mount Etna and beaches to experience.

Jet2.com and Jet2Holidays are offering a programme of 51 sun and city destinations from Birmingham Airport as part of their programme for summer 2023.

You can find more information and book your flights or holiday via the Jet2 or Jet2Holidays websites.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2Holidays, said: “We are delighted to be waving off our first flight to Sicily from Birmingham Airport today and look forward to seeing our inaugural flight to Sardinia take off from the base later this week too.

“The addition of these stunning Italian islands to our Summer 23 programme from Birmingham Airport has proven to be extremely popular with customers and independent travel agents looking for glorious sunshine alongside that authentic Italian experience.

“Sardinia and Sicily are fantastic additions to our enormous Summer 23 programme from Birmingham Airport, and it means we are extending our popular Italian offering significantly for locals in the Midlands. As the UK’s largest tour operator, we are giving customers and independent travel agents unrivalled choice when it comes to enjoying a holiday from Birmingham Airport this Summer 23, with award-winning customer experience on top.”

What happens if you miss your flight due to airport delays?

Tom Screen, aviation director for Birmingham Airport (BHX), said: “Direct flights to the largest and the second-largest islands in the Mediterranean is fabulous news for customers. Sicily, with its stunning coastline, glorious landscapes and sumptuous cuisine, is a wonderful addition to Jet2.com and Jet2holidays’ Birmingham Airport offering.

“But they haven’t stopped there. Sardinia, with its fascinating geology, dreamy beaches and unique history, is also now just a few hours away from Birmingham Airport.”

CEO of SAC, Nico Torrisi, added: “The launch of a further connection between Catania and the UK operated by Jet2.com and Jet2holidays is an important signal not only for our airport but for the whole Sicilian territory.

“The activation of the route to and from Birmingham, for which we thank the airline which is also the largest tour operator in the United Kingdom, in fact confirms the great attractiveness of our airport in terms of tourist flows from Great Britain. Furthermore, the new destination will give many Sicilians the possibility of being able to easily reach England, which has always been one of the favourite destinations for travel and an important destination for business travellers".
