CONSERVATIVES campaigning to stay in Europe brought their 'battlebus' into Worcester to put their case to city voters.

The battlebus, carrying the slogans "In Europe for Britain" and "Remain on the Road", first made a trip to Pershore in the morning, before arriving in the city centre at lunchtime and moving on to Malvern in the afternoon.

The Worcester News caught up with the Tory campaigners when they stopped off and set up a leafleting stall in High Street.

Worcester's MP Robin Walker and West Worcestershire MP were joined by Conservative activists who spoke to passers-by in the street, answered their questions, and handed them "In Europe for the West Midlands" leaflets.

Mr Walker told the Worcester News that he recognised there had been criticisms from some about the negative tone of the referendum debate, but he said the key now is to get the message out about the "strong, positive case for staying in".

"It is a positive campaign, and we are making that on the basis of the local economy," Mr Walker said.

"We are getting out and telling people why it is to our advantage to stay in, rather than just talking about the risks.

"There is a concern that people want Britain to have more of a control over its own destiny- the point I make to people is that I think we can achieve that by asserting ourselves more, by passing things like a British bill of rights.

"When people ask 'what will happen if Britain pulls out?' the honest answer is nobody knows.

"Whatever happens, I'm convinced Britain can succeed and Worcester will thrive - but we would be tying one arm behind our back if we pull out."

Mrs Baldwin said she was getting out on the campaign trail as a lot of people still hadn't made up their mind, and she wanted to stress that a vote for leave was a vote for uncertain economic times.

"The polls are close so it is really important people register before next week's deadline," the MP said.

"This will be the most decision this country makes in young people's lifetime.

"It is really important for them to take responsibility, and take part."

The referendum on the EU takes place on Thursday, June 23.
