A MAN made a bizarre emergency phone call to the ambulance service complaining about a "scary hedgehog".

The man's phone call has been released by West Midlands Ambulance Service to highlight the inappropriate calls they receive.

After the call operator asks if the patient is breathing the man is heard to reply "No, er, there's an animal. We've found a hedgehog by the grove."

The call taker replies "So, what do you need an emergency ambulance for?"

He says: "Because I need you to take him away. The kids are getting scared."

After being told it is nothing to do with the ambulance service the call taker again asks if anyone is injured and he responds "Nobody's injured".

He's told the ambulance service cannot deal with it and the call is ended.

Other calls released this week by the ambulance service have included a drunk man who wants a lift home, a call for a glass of water and a woman who has dropped a shampoo bottle on her foot.

West Midlands Ambulance Service has released the clips in a bid to get people to use the 999 number only in an actual emergency.
