WORCESTERSHIRE all-rounder Moeen Ali snapped up two wickets as England chose to bat again in pursuit of a series-levelling victory after taking a mammoth first-innings lead of 391 at Old Trafford.

Pakistan resumed 532 runs adrift on the third morning of the second Investec Test, and stumbled from 57-4 to 198 all out.

Misbah-ul-Haq’s hard-working 114-ball 52 proved what might have been possible for his Pakistan team, and he finally found some support from Wahab Riaz as the ninth wicket realised the innings’ first and only half-century stand.

In the end, it required Moeen to see off the captain - caught mis-sweeping to his opposite number at short fine leg.

Wahab at last gave Misbah belated support in a partnership of 60, and remained defiant with a Test-best 39 even after the captain was gone.

England had to put up with a minor delay as the deficit was reduced to under 400 before Moeen had Wahab caught going for another big hit into the leg-side deep.

It was enough to convince the hosts not to enforce the follow-on and England closed on 98-1 for a lead of 489.

n County all-rounder Brett D'Oliveira scored 13 and took a catch in England Lions' comprehensive 56-run win against Pakistan A at Canterbury, Kent.
