THE Fossils defeated Old Elizabethans ladies by six wickets.

OEs chose to bat and Jane Lock (2) and Kathy Williams (26) started well before the former was caught behind.

Gertie Thorne, who retired on 38, and Williams put bat to ball in a stand of 25.

Mel Emson made 35 retired as the score finished on 136-4 from 30 overs with Phillis Lock and Tia Webb not out.

Fossils made a steady start with Don Bates (14) leading the way.

Tom Fellows fell for a duck but hard-hitting Nigel Price hit a fine 34 and added 65 runs with Bates.

Fred Lloyd added 18 before he was run out.

The ladies bowled and fielded well but a stand of 38 between Roger Morris (23no) and Dormston Cook (27no) saw Fossils home with six overs to spare.

Fossils and Malvern drew when heavy rain came down.

The veterans had needed 141 to win from 30 overs.

Bowlers Martin Mudway (4-31) and Martin Woodward (4-30) kept a tight hold on Malvern.
