VICTORIES are Worcester City’s only source of motivation, insists joint-manager Carl Heeley as his in-form side aim to chase down mid-table Chorley with another three points.

Sixteenth-placed Worcester travel to the Lancashire side tomorrow (3pm) searching for their third win on the spin in National League North.

The last time the two sides met, City suffered agony at Aggborough as Chorley snatched a 3-2 victory with a late winner.

But Heeley said the gut-wrenching defeat in August had been erased from the memory banks and they were only focused on continuing their resurgence in form.

“What is the point of dwelling on games that happened six months ago?” he said.

“Yes, it was frustrating but I have been frustrated thousands of times in football and I can drive myself to craziness dwelling on things I can’t control.

“I have just got back home after two-and-a-half hours in the car and I could be frustrated about that. But I don’t dwell on the past.

“Maybe you get frustrated at the time but you would have a nervous breakdown if you did that because there are trials and tribulations every single day of the week.

“You have to just look at the next training session or game and try to get a positive outcome from the things you can affect.

“The motivation we have got is we have had two great wins in the last two games (against high-fliers AFC Fylde and North Ferriby United) and we will try to make that three.

“There is no other motivation than that.”

Chorley have been as high as seventh this season but inconsistency has seen them slip off the promotion race and Heeley believes City have the belief to be victorious at Victory Park.

“Chorley are five points ahead of us, so it is important we get something out of the game and keep in touch with them,” he said.

“It is always a good incentive when you see a side just above you.

“It is a great opportunity to get closer to them.”

Lee Hughes looks set to replace Amaduo Bakayoko as the lone striker after getting another match under his belt in midweek when City beat Halesowen Town 1-0 in a friendly.

With Walsall loanee Jordan Murphy agreeing to stay at City for a further month, Heeley is likely to have a strong squad to choose from.

But he added: “There are always challenges that get thrown at you which you don’t anticipate, so I am not going to get too excited.

“Fingers crossed, we will have everybody available and have nobody dropping out as it would not be the first time that has happened.”
