WORCESTER City Amateur Boxing Club members were in action across the Midlands.

Schoolboy James Scarrot came up against the taller Oliver Allen, of the Jewellery Quarter, on their home show in Birmingham.

The hometown boy wasted no time and got off to a good start, pumping out long punches against a pursuing Scarrot.

The southpaw Allen started to ease off as the round progressed but he still just did enough to come out on top at the bell.

The second and third were a lot closer with Scarrot applying the pressure with both hands.

The only thing separating the two was the slightly neater boxing skills from Birmingham’s Allen.

However, Scarrot did his club proud by showing determination throughout the contest.

Lightweight Ameen Khan knocked out Mitchel Roberts, of Great Wyrley ABC, for a place in the Midlands final of the senior development championships.

There was nothing to separate to pair during the first two rounds with the shorter Roberts keeping pace with Khan.

The Worcester boxer did not get going until the latter stages of round two when he staggered the Wyrley boxer with a hard upper cut.

Into the third and Khan started to move through the gears.

His speed and movement became too much for Roberts although he tried to get some of his hooks home but to no avail.

Khan threw out a fast left jab, quickly followed by a terrific right upper cut, which caused his opponent to slump forward onto his chest.

Khan pushed his opponent away and he fell to the canvas.

The damage was done and, when the referee allowed the fight to continue, Khan ripped into Roberts with lightening speed.

Roberts was almost out on his feet, leaving the referee no choice other than to halt the proceedings by way of knockout.

Meanwhile, Droitwich Amateur Boxing Club’s Clarence Hall won his bout by a unanimous decision at the Ludlow ABC home show in Shropshire.

The club returned with boxing for schools with a session at the town’s Witton Middle.
