WORCESTER’S Jamie Insall says December is a realistic target for him to break into the first-team squad at Scottish Championship side Hibernian.

The lively striker was a surprise inclusion on the bench for the Edinburgh club’s 3-0 league win against Queen of the South at Dumfries’ Palmerston Park.

Insall made his first appearance as a contracted Hibs player in the development squad’s 1-0 midweek defeat at Ross County and had a late effort which rattled the bar.

The 23-year-old moved to Easter Road in September following a prolific spell of 42 goals last season for Bromyard Town and Worcester Raiders in West Midlands League Division One.

Insall was back in Worcester at the weekend to see his son and girlfriend Amie Harris.

He said: “It was a really good experience at Queen of the South and it came a bit sooner than I expected.

“My main aim is to get involved in Hibs’ first team in December because I am behind in terms of fitness and, of course, being new to the squad this season.

“I have been involved in first-team training, which is really good, but that was the first time I had been involved in the Hibs first team on a matchday.

“I am a confident lad and I believe in my own ability, but there were seven or eight players injured and the gaffer (Alan Stubbs) gave me the opportunity.

“Hibs have got one of the best squads in the division and are on a par with Glasgow Rangers.”

Insall is a former Kidderminster Harriers youth team player who was also playing in McDonald’s Worcester and District League Sunday Division Two last season for WCT Youth Raiders.

In terms of fitness, it has been a huge step up from what I was used to because I was playing Sunday league football and I am now in full-time training,” he continued.

“I am not deluded enough to think the hard work is done, but I believe I am good enough to be at this level and I want to be in and around the first-team squad in three or four months’ time.”

Insall played across the two counties for the likes of Stourport Swifts, Redditch United, Pershore Town, Littleton and Westfields.

He is due to return to training at Hibs tomorrow.

“I have signed a three-year deal so I think Hibs see me as a long-term project,” added Insall.

“I can see me playing in five or six development games, building up my fitness levels and getting more used to things.”
