A LAST-gasp goal saw Droitwich beaten 3-2 at home by Kidderminster in Worcestershire Women’s League Division Two.

Kidderminster opened the scoring against the run of play in the first-half after Droitwich, who were playing without their normal keeper, were caught in defence.

Droitwich’s calm approach and constant pressure on the opposition goal led to Sophie Blackmore converting some scrappy play on the goal-line to level the scores just before half-time.

Minutes into the second period, the visitors were dealt a huge blow when midfielder Lucy Hine came off worse in a challenge and couldn’t continue, reducing Droitwich to 10 players.

The hosts fought hard but went 2-1 down within 10 minutes of Hine’s departure.

However, they weren’t beaten and fine central midfield play from Blackmore led to a penalty corner being awarded, which Mollie Cresswell eventually converted.

But it was Kidderminster who came out on top when, with just minutes to go, they deflected a weak cross into the net.

Droitwich host Bromsgrove seconds on Saturday at noon.
