WORCESTER City will not be overawed by Stockport County’s bumper home support when the sides meet at Edgeley Park tonight (7.45), says manager Carl Heeley.

City make the trip to the former Football League club bidding to record a third straight victory in Vanarama Conference North.

With the Hatters having attracted more than 2,000 fans to each of their four home games to date, tonight’s crowd is set to be the largest City have played in front of since the 4-0 defeat at the same ground last October.

But Heeley insists his in-form team, who have won three of their last four matches to rise to ninth in the table, will relish the surroundings as they aim to climb towards the play-offs.

“They’re the games we want to play in but we’ve got plenty of experience in our camp and they’ll thrive on that, step up and enjoy the occasion,” the Blue and Whites boss said.

“It’s not about the crowd, the club and their history, it’s about Worcester City going there trying to win another three points and that’s what we’re looking to do.”

City could keep faith with the side that beat Chorley 2-0 with an impressive performance on Saturday and Lowestoft Town 2-1 last Tuesday with centre-half Jacob Rowe the only doubt due to work commitments.

Heeley is mindful of not burning his players out but is equally keen not to knock them out of their stride.

He said: “You have to take into account the fact we played with 10 men the other evening and they put another shift in on Saturday and there are lads there that could possibly freshen it up.

“That said, there’s no major need to make wholesale changes because they’ve got that momentum and they’re going well. Part of you says stick with and don’t fix something that’s not broken.”

Stockport are one place above Worcester in the table and have won two of their last three matches, including a 3-2 home victory against Boston United on Saturday.

Meanwhile, City have been handed a home draw in the FA Cup in the second qualifying round after being paired with either Chasetown or Rugby Town, who replay tonight.

Chasetown play in the Northern League First Division South while Rugby, who City beat in last season’s competition, ply their trade in the Southern League Division One Central.

Heeley said: “We have got a home draw against opposition from two tiers below and we can’t ask for any more than that.

“The way we are playing at home, it’s got to be a decent draw.”
