RESIDENTS think the approved construction of nine houses and a block of retirement flats in Northwick, will cause traffic 'chaos'.

Residents claim the dwellings and three-storey, six unit, retirement building in Eastbank Court will exacerbate congestion in nearby streets.

Ken and Joyce Pringle, of Eastbank Court, said: "These plans are totally unacceptable. The car park is always full during the day.

"Eastbank Drive is a narrow road with cars parked throughout the day. The extra traffic will cause chaos."

Residents Pauline Arksey MBE and Haldane Arksey said: "Difficulties in parking on site already occur and the position will be worsened by the proposed development.

"Court residents are faced with danger when exiting by the traffic already parked on Eastbank Drive, leaving a single road."

Mr and Mrs Arksey say daily visitors to the complex include workers helping ageing people, as well as friends and family.

The couple added that vital Eastbank Court staff also use parking spaces at the site.

The majority of correspondences with the council regarding the application related to traffic issues.

Councillors reiterated these concerns at a Worcester City Council planning committee meeting in Guildhall on Thursday, August 25.

Cllr Andy Stafford said visitors parking in Eastbank Drive would 'almost certainly' prove problematic for residents.

The councillor added that Eastbank Court lacked adequate parking provision for the 'huge' number of visitors.

Cllr Stafford asked highways to be vigilant and to act quickly if visitors end up blocking in Eastbank Drive residents.

Congestion is expected to be particularly bad during the school run, as the retirement complex sits next to Northwick Manor Primary School.
