AS the Queen's official 90th birthday approaches, Worcester residents have been busy recording what she means to them as part of a county-wide history project.

People of all ages have been taking part in Worcestershire County Council's 90 Years in 90 Seconds project, which asks residents to video themselves detailing their memories of the monarch.

Every video submitted will be archived by Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service, supported by Media Archive Central England (MACE).

Project organisers hope the great, great grandchildren of those living in Worcestershire in 2016 will have a direct link to this moment in time in the future.

Carol, from Worcester, said: "My memory is of my son graduating from Cranwell where we met the Queen and Prince Philip. We are, as a family, royalist and even at my tender age of 62 I would stand up and fight for her tomorrow and I think it's very important that we keep the Royal family always."

Clare Marchant, recording her video in Worcester, said: "She has been a constant throughout the period growing up over the last 40 years of my life and I think she's part of the British fabric of society.

"In leading a local government organisation now and being clerk to the Lord Lieutenant I am constantly reminded how much it means to other people as well and how welcoming people are when the Queen and the Queen's descendants come to visit Worcestershire."

Lt Col Patrick Holcroft, Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire said: "We would like to get a range of views about Her Majesty The Queen and what she means to the people of Worcestershire.

"There are probably many people who would like to share their memories and thoughts of what The Queen means to them and I very much hope that they will get in touch."

Anyone can take part in the project and entries can be submitted until Sunday, June 12.

Videos can be taken on any device and can be in any style.

The only requirements are that the video:

  • is as close to 90 seconds long as possible
  • the beginning of the video includes the name of the person in the video and where they live
  • is sent with a completed and signed consent form to 90SecondVideo@worcestershire.gov.uk
