VOLUNTEERS are taking part in a survey of Worcester's war memorials with a view to conserving them for future generations.

The first 12 volunteers in Worcester to participate in the National Survey of War Memorials attended a workshop at the Guildhall run by Civic Voice, the national body of Civic Societies, on Tuesday.

The survey, run jointly by Civic Voice, Historic England and the War Memorial Trust plans to survey and record all the War Memorials in England over the next four years, thought to be in excess of 80,000.

Funds are available to assist in repair and conservation of any memorials requiring work.

In Worcester the survey is being run by the Worcester Civic Society and plans are already in place to hold further workshops in the New Year.

Chairman Phil Douce said: "We are still looking for more volunteers as we know of over 500 war memorials in Worcester alone and eventually we would want to expand the survey to cover Worcestershire."

If you can spare some time and would like to get involved with this project contact Phil Douce, chairman of Worcester Civic Society (phildouce68@gmail.com) who will add your name to the list for future workshops.
