THERE will be extra special third birthday celebrations for Georgie Gibbs - the little girl who desperately needs an operation to allow her to walk unaided.

Georgie's parents Clare and Carl are still anxiously waiting to hear whether the two-year-old is eligible for NHS-funding for a selective dorsal rhizotomy.

The couple expected to find out on Thursday, October 1 if their daughter was successful but have now been told they will have to continue waiting until the Department of Health clarifies its funding.

Despite the setback, the family are gearing up to celebrate Georgie's third birthday on Sunday and have invited supporters to come and celebrate with cupcakes and birthday cake.

The Help Georgie team will be back at the Ketch car boot and will be holding a mini birthday party on their stall between 7.30am and 1pm.

The second week of fundraising at the carboot site in Worcester managed to raise £300 and the couple have thanked carboot organiser Wayne Skidmore and Geoff Derby, the son of the landowner.

Money is being raised to send the little girl to America if she is turned down by the NHS for funding or to pay for her aftercare if she is successful.

Mrs Gibbs, from St John's, said she felt like the city had taken Georgie to their hearts and was moved by the support the family have received so far.

"It is so lovely to talk to the community of Worcester about our fundraising appeal and feel the actual love that they have in their hearts for Georgie."

The couple, who have an older daughter named Ella, have been moved by the donations which have come flooding in and offers of support.

Kim Howe, a work colleague of Mrs Gibbs at Shaw Healthcare Group, raised £80 in the Derby City Half Marathon while there are also plans for a celebrity tug of war at The Coventry Arms.

People will be able to pit themselves against the might of Worcester Warriors players on Sunday, November 8 from 12pm.

Stallholders are needed for a ladies Christmas Shopping and Pamper Night on Friday, November 13 and a quiz night is also being planned at the Bell Inn, St John's on Friday, November 20.
