PERSHORE'S young people have created a colourful mural to brighten up their local library.

Bridget Lloyd from Malvern Theatres worked with students from Pershore High School and Abbey Park Middle School, as well as Pershore Resource Centre — a place for severely physically and mentally disabled adults — to create the artwork.

The finished canvas, which can be seen in Pershore Library, features plum trees blossoming and a healthy harvest being gathered.

There is also an image of a couple sitting back to back signify the importance of reading and in the branches of the trees there are logos and images relevant to Pershore, such as the Abbey, Number 8, Pershore High School and Abbey Park Middle School.

Jenny Davis, arts development officer at Wychavon District Council, said: “I would like to acknowledge all of the hard work that Bridget and all of the other artists put in to create this impressive artwork. I would also like to thank Edward Turfrey at Pershore High School, Phil Cotton at Abbey Park Middle School and the Pershore Resource Centre for helping organise the project and inspire the students and service users to participate. My thanks also go to Pershore Town Council for allowing us to use the canvases to create this unique piece of art.”

The canvases will be on display for some time and opportunities are still available for other art groups to create further murals for display in the future.
