A WOMAN was trapped in the wreckage of a car for over 90 minutes after it was involved in a two-car crash in near Worcester.

The collision happened in a bend on a hill on the A38 at Severn Stoke just before 10.20pm last night where the driver of a black Renault Clio, a 25-year-old woman, was trapped by her legs in the wreckage.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Ambulance staff worked with firefighters for over 90 minutes to free her. The appalling weather conditions made the task even more difficult as the roof and dashboard were removed.”

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene to cut the woman out of her car.

She had suffered serious, multiple injuries and was immobilised by paramedics and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

The driver of a blue Mercedes A140, a 19-year-old woman , was knocked unconscious by the crash and was trapped for about 40 minutes.

When assessed she appeared to be relatively uninjured. She was taken to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital as a precaution.

”Given the complexity of the incident, there was some excellent joint working between all three emergency services at the scene,” the spokesman added.

Police closed the road until 3.30am this morning.
