TWO Worcestershire women have been shortlisted for major awards in the transport and logistics industry.

Amiee Leeson, an HGV driver with XPO Logistics of Worcester, and Lynsey McIntosh, operations director of Oakland International of Redditch, have reached the finals of 2016 FTA everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards. Ms McIntosh has been shortlisted ion the warehousing category and Ms Leeson in the driver of the year section, which covers HGVs, vans, motorcycles and passenger transport.

The everywoman Awards aim to demonstrate the breadth of career opportunities offered by the industry, particularly for women, and those shortlisted are top examples of this with careers ranging from engineers to warehousing managers and HGV drivers. A total of 22 finalists have been announced across seven categories.

Maxine Benson, co-founder of everywoman, said: "The announcement comes as the transport industry seeks to enhance its image as one that offers exciting opportunities to all women, from young women entering the workforce to those returning after a career break. This year’s finalists are the role models who demonstrate the industry is open to all backgrounds and skill-sets and that it welcomes talented and ambitious women. We know these finalists will inspire others to follow in their footsteps.”

David Wells, FTA chief executive added: “The Freight Transport Association is proud to once again be the title partner of the prestigious FTA everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards 2016. Women are essential in every aspect of the UK logistics and supply chains – from drivers and warehouse staff, to transport managers and managing directors. It is essential that the logistics industry is able to access a wide talent pool, to meet its need for good quality staff at every level. The FTA everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards encourages forward-thinking companies that are committed to introducing diversity to the freight industry, and showcases how women can make a career in transport a successful and fulfilling one.”

The winners will be unveiled at a ceremony attended by more than 300 industry leaders on May 26 at the London Hilton in Park Lane.
